Odor
Just a warning but hamsters have a strong odor if you don't clean their cage as often as you need to. It is very easy to clean their cage. What you do is empty out all of their bedding and take out any other items. Soak the cage and any other items that you would like to wash in warm water. Put dish soap in the water and take a rag and wipe the cage squeaky clean!! Be sure to clean the bowls and anything else your hamster may use that might get dirty with a rag too!!~

Cleaning Cage

You should clean your hamsters cage once a week. You should remove soiled food daily from the cage. The cage should not be super dirty. When you clean the cage you take out all of the things in the cage. Wash the base with soap and warm water. Put fresh bedding into the cage along with all of the other things. If you wanted to move things around in the cage doing after you clean it would be a good idea.
Why a Hamster Instead of a rabbiat, ferret, or guinea pig?
Types of Hamsters
There are four different types of pet hamsters. All of them make good pets. Here are some things about each type.
Sryian- These hamsters are the most common. They are the biggest type of hamster. They are easy to handle and are very friendly.
Robo- These hamsters are dwarf hamsters. They are tiniest pet hamster. They have white "eye brows" and a stripe down their backs. Hard to handle. They like to live in pairs.
Chinese- These are dwarf hamsters. They have a long tail. They are friendly to people.
Siberian- These are dwarf hamsters. Their fur changes color during the seasons. It is white in the winter.

Diet
First Days
Your hamster might be shy for the first few days. You should hand feed it seeds or other foods so it will get to know you. Don't try to pick it up right away. Gently stroke it's back. Keep other people away from your hamster for the first few days. He or she might get scared and bite them.
Coming Home
Before you bring home your new pet you need to have some things ready. You must have a cage, bedding, food, water, a wheel, and chew blocks. You must have a safe cage. It has to have a sturdy door and enough room. I have found that the plastic cages break easily so I sugest a wire cage. You must know where you will put your new pet. When you arrive at the pet store or breeder look at the different breeds of hamsters. Then play with the breed you have chosen. The store or breeder will probaly give you a box to put your pet. You may want to bring a plastic bin of your own for your hamster. You may want to find out how old your pet is. When you put your hamster in his or her cage let him be. He may be scared.
Getting a Hamster
Before you get a hamster be sure you are ready to keep it healthy. Taking care of a hamster takes responsibility. You must have the time, money, and responsibility to care for it.
